Upper - intermediate 2 - class 5

 This week we looked at some vocabulary on health on page 13:

Si tuviera dolor de muelas, iría al dentista 

If I had a toothache, I would go to the dentist

Si tuviera un esguince, iría a urgencias

If I had a sprain, I would go to the emergency room

Si tuviera pérdida de la voz iría al foniatra.

If I had a voice loss, I would go to the speech doctor

Si tuviera manchas en la cara iría al dermatólogo

If I had spots on my face, I would go to the dermatologist


Recibir y dar consejos sobre la salud - p.14

Te recuerdo que la semana que viene acaba el plazo para renovar el seguro médico, que no se te pase.

I remind you that next week is the deadline to renew the medical insurance, don't let it pass.

Te aviso de que hoy va a llover. No sé si con el resfriado que tienes es el mejor día para ir de excursión

I warn you that it is going to rain today. I don't know if having that cold it is the best day to go on a trip.

No te fíes de lo que te diga Juan. No es médico. 

Do not trust what Juan says. He is not a doctor.

¡Ojo con esas pastillas! No tomes demasiadas.

Watch out with those pills. Don't take too many.

Si yo fuera tú, iría ahora mismo a urgencias. No esperes a estar peor.

If I were you, I would go the emergency room right now. Don't wait to feel worse.


In the last part of the class, we gave advice or warnings to the situations on page 14: 

1.Pedro acaba de salir del hospital. El médico le ha diagnosticado una neumonía crónica.

Pedro has just left the hospital. The doctor has diagnosed a chronic pneumonia.

Le recomendaría que se abrigara bien y que siguiera estrictamente el tratamiento que le haya dado el doctor.

I would recommend him to wrap himself up in clothes and would strictly follow the treatment that the doctor has prescribed.


2.Reme sufre depresión desde hace dos años. 

Reme suffers from depression for two years. 

Lo mejor sería que tomara la medicación y mantuviera el contacto con su familia y amigos.

The best thing would be to take the medication and keep in contact with family and friends. 


3. Teresa va a empezar a trabajar como enfermera en el departamento de enfermedades contagiosas

Teresa is going to start working as a nurse at the department of infectious illnesses.

Le aconsejo lavarse las manos antes de ir y salir del hospital.

I advise her to wash her hands before going and on leaving the hospital.


4. Lupe y Olga son dos hermanas obesas. Llevan años probando dietas y no consiguen adelgazar. 

Lupe and Olga are two obese sisters. They have been trying diets for years and cannot lose weight. 

Lo mejor sería operarse

The best thing would be to go under surgery


5. Bárbara se ha hecho un esguince caminando con unos zapatos de tacón altísimo.

Bárbara has sprained her ankle as she was walking with very high heels

Ojo con su elección de calzado

Watch your shoe choices!


6.Roberto se ha caído de la bici. Le han dado cinco puntos en el labio superior.

Roberto has fallen off the bike. He has received five stitches on the upper lip

Le aconsejo que no montes en bici por unos días. 

I would advise him not to go on a bike for a few days.
