Upper intermediate 2 - class 2 (1/05/24)

 This week we continued with the topic of society and the world - La sociedad y el mundo - on page 3.

On page 5, we talked about life stages and attitudes - Etapas de la vida.

Infancia - Childhood

adolescencia - teenage years

juventud - youth

adultez - adulthood

ancianidad - elder years

aceptación de la muerte - acceptance of death

búsqueda de la independencia - search for independence

aprendizaje - learning

devoción hacia los amigos - devotion towards friends

emancipación económica - financial freedom


In pairs, we talked about our teenage years. Sample answer: 

Cuando era adolescente, confiaba en mis amigos y ellos siempre me apoyaban. Era una persona bastante extrovertida y hablaba con casi todo el mundo. Supongo que la relación con mis padres era como la de cualquier otra persona de mi edad. ¡Yo pensaba que no me comprendían! Me encantaba pasar tiempo en la calle o en el parque y charlábamos mientras que comíamos patatas fritas o bebíamos un refresco. ¡Cómo echo de menos esos años!

When I was a teen, I used to trust my friends and they would always support me. I was a quite extroverted person and I used to talk to almost everybody. I suppose my relationship with my parents was like any other person my age. I thought they couldn't understand me! I loved spending time on the street or the park and we used to chat while we ate a bag of crisps or had a fizzy drink. I miss those years so much!


We learnt adjectives to describe people's personalities.

aburrido/a - boring

comprometido/a - committed

conservador/a - conservative

convencional - conventional

desengañado/a - disillusioned

despreocupado/a - carefree

impulsivo/a - impulsive

moderno/a - modern

previsor/a - farsighted

sincero/a - honest

tradicional - traditional

vividor/a - opportunistic


In the last part of the class, we listened to two people and we described their personalities based on their comments: 

Antonio

Le gusta vivir el momento - He likes to seize the moment

No quiere sentirse atado a nada y a nadie - He does not want to be tied to anything or anyone

Laura

Es una persona previsora porque le gustaría tener dos o tres hijos - She is a farsighted person because she would like to have two or three kids.

Es tradicional porque quiere casarse por la iglesia - She is traditional because she wants to get married in the church

Además, quiere ir vestida de blanco - She wants to wear a white dress

Creo que Laura es una persona conservadora y convencial - I think Laura is a conservative and conventional person.
