ELEMENTARY COURSE, SPRING 2023, CLASS 4

 This week we looked at the Spanish map and learnt some information about the country.

 

En España hay diecisiete comunidades autónomas. Cada comunidad autónoma tiene su propio gobierno local. - In Spain there are 17 regions. Each has its own local government.

 

Dos de esas comunidades son los archipiélagos: Islas Baleares e Islas Canarias - Two of those regions are group of islands: Balearic Islands and Canary Islands.

 

También hay cincuenta provincias. - There are also 50 counties.

Hay dos ciudades autónomas que están en África pero pertenecen a España y se llaman Ceuta y Melilla. - There are also two autonomous cities in Africa but belong to Spain called Ceuta y Melilla.

In the second part of the class, we learnt the Perfect tense. This tense is used for past experiences - have you ever…?

The tense consists of two verbs - the verb HABER according to the person we refer to; the main verb ending with -ado or -ido.

 

1. HABER → he, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han
2. Verb in past participle. -AR endings → -ado ; -ER, -IR endings → -ido

 

¿Has estado en Mallorca? - Have you been to Mallorca?

Sí, he estado en Mallorca - Yes, I have been to Mallorca.

 

In groups we worked on the questions from pages 14 and 15. Some samples:

 

¿Has estado en África? - Have you been to Africa?

No, nunca he estado en África pero me gustaría ir a Marruecos - No, I have never been to Africa but I would like to go to Morocco.

 

¿Has comido caracoles? - Have you eaten snails?

Sí, he comido caracoles en salsa en España. Son deliciosos - Yes, I have eaten snails in Spain. They are delicious.

 

¿Has montado en caballo? - Have you ridden a horse?

Sí, he montado en caballo pero no me gusta nada - Yes, I have ridden a horse but I don’t like it at all!

¿Has trabajado en un restaurante? - Have you worked in a restaurant?

Sí, he trabajado en un restaurante durante mis años de universidad. - Yes, I have worked in a restaurant during my college years.

 

¿Cuál es el país más interesante que has visitado? - What’s the most interesting place you have visited?

He visitado Argentina. Hay muchos monumentos interesantes - I have visited Argentina. There are a lot of interesting monuments.
