We looked at
some sounds in Spanish
ñ – pronounced
like “ny” – España, niño
ll – pronounced
like “ly” – me llamo, Sevilla
j or g –
pronounced at the back of the throat like the “ch” in Scottish “loch” – mujer,
gente, general
h – always silent
c –
pronounced like an “s” before “I” and “e” – cien, cinco
We then put
together a basic conversation
Hola, buenos días – good morning
Buenas
tardes (or just “Buenas”) – Good afternoon
¿Qué tal? –
how are things?
¿Cómo estás?
– How are you?
Estoy bien –
I am well
Estoy más o menos – I’m only OK
Estoy fatal –
I am terrible
¿Cómo te
llamas? – What is your name?
Me llamo….. –
my name is…. (literally “I am called….”)
Encantado –
nice to meet you (If you are a man)
Encantada –
Nice to meet you (if you are a woman)
