BEGINNERS 3 COURSE, SPRING 2023, CLASS 5

 This week we worked on situations with the topic of tapas. Some new vocabulary:

 

aceitunas sin relleno - plain olives

aceitunas rellenas de anchoas - olives filled with anchovies

croquetas caseras - homemade croquettes

refrescos variados - variety of fizzy drinks

 

-Hola, ¿me pone una ración de gambas y otra de aceitunas? - Hi, can I get a portion of prawns and another of olives?

-Por supuesto. ¿algo más? - Certainly. Anything else?

-Sí, quisiera una copa de vino y una botella de agua mineral - Yes, I would like a glass of red wine and a bottle of still water.

-Claro. ¿Lo va a tomar en la terraza? - Sure. Are you going to have it outside?

-Sí, gracias. ¿Cuánto es todo en total? - Yes, thank you. How much is everything in total?

-En total son cinco euros y treinta céntimos - In total it is €5,30

 

In the second part of the class, we started the topic of the house on page 16

 

La casa y las habitaciones - the house and the rooms

el dormitorio - the bedroom

el comedor - the dining room

el estudio - the study room / the office

la cocina - the kitchen

el cuarto de baño / el baño - the bathroom

BEGINNERS COURSE, 2023, CLASS 5

 Week 5

We revised the time

9.00 – son las nueve

9.30 – son las nueve y media

9.15 – son las nueve y cuarto

9.50 – Son las diez menos diez

La fiesta – the party

La fiesta es el lunes a las diez y cinco – the party is on Monday at 10.05

WE moved on to jobs

¿Qué hace?  - What does she do? What does he do?

Es medico

Es conductor – he is a driver

Es enfermera – she is a nurse

Es bombero – he is a fireman

Es profesora – she is a teacher

Está jubilado – he is retired (we use está for a state, not a profession)

 

¿Qué haces? – What do you do?

Soy funcionaria – I am a civil servant

Era técnico – I was a technician

Soy tatuador – I am a tatooist

Trabajo con niños con discapacidades – I work with children with disabilities

Soy contable – I am an accountant

Soy agente inmobiliario – I am an estate agent

ELEMENTARY COURSE, SPRING 2023, CLASS 5

 This week we revised the perfect tense.

 

First, we did a filling the gaps activity:

 

1.Yo he hecho los deberes esta semana - I have done my homework this week

2.Tú has limpiado la casa - You have cleaned the house

3.María ha estudiado mucho - María has studied a lot

4.Nosotros hemos ido al parque - We have gone to the park

5.Vosotros habéis vivido aquí desde hace dos años - You all have lived here for two years

6.Los niños han comido patatas y pollo - The kids have had potatoes and chicken for dinner

7.Mi madre ha cocinado un pastel delicioso - My mother has cooked a delicious cak

 

We read a text in groups:

 

He ido a Barcelona - I have visited Barcelona

He visitado a mi amiga Marta - I have visited my friend Marta

Marta y yo hemos hecho muchas cosas - Marta and I have done lots of things

Hemos visitado la Sagrada Familia - We have visited the Sagrada Familia

Hemos paseado por la playa - We have walked on the beach

Hemos comido unas tapas muy buenas - We have eaten very nice tapas

Hemos salido a tomar una copa - We have gone out for a drink

Hemos cenado en un restaurante - We have had dinner in a restaurant

Me lo he pasado muy bien en Barcelona - I have had lots of fun in Barcelona

 

 

In pairs we answered some questions on the perfect tense:

 

1.¿Qué has hecho hoy? - What have you done today?

Hoy he trabajado durante ocho horas y he hablado con mi amiga - Today I worked for eight hours and I have talked to my friend

 

2.¿Qué has desayunado esta mañana? - What did you have for breakfast this morning?

Esta mañana he desayunado tostadas y un zumo de naranja - This morning I had toast and orange juice for breakfast

 

3.¿Qué has comido hoy? - What did you have for lunch today?

Hoy he comido una ensalada y un bocadillo de jamón - Today I had a salad and a ham sandwich

 

4.¿Qué países has visitado? - What countries have you visited?

He visitado Francia. He estado en París y me encanta - I have visited France. I have been to Paris and I love it

 

5.¿Alguna vez has comido comida india? - Have you ever eaten Indian food?

Sí, he comido comida india pero no me gusta mucho - Yes, I have eaten Indian food but I don’t like it much.

 

6.¿Alguna vez has estado en España? - Have you ever been to Spain?

Sí, he estado en Granada. Es una ciudad muy interesante - Yes, I have been to Granada. It is a very interesting city.

 

7.¿Qué has hecho esta semana? - What have you done this week?

Esta semana he ido al trabajo, he tenido una reunión y he paseado con mi perro - This week I have gone to work, I have had a meeting and I have walked my dog.

 

8.¿Has usado el internet esta semana? - Have you used the Internet this week?

Sí, he comprado en línea y he charlado con mis amigos - Yes, I have shopped online and I have talked to my friends

Bueno, vamos a ver. Me parece que tienes la gripe - Well, let’s see. It seems to me that you have the flu

Te daré una receta para unos antibióticos - I will give you a prescription for some antibiotics.

We talked a little about travel and the Caribbean

Se quedó impresionado – he was very impressed by the site

Quedarse + adjective is used to express the emotional result of an experience

BEGINNERS 3 COURSE, SPRING 2023, CLASS 4

 This week we started by revising the present tense with statements on Spanish celebrations:

 

  1. En San Valentín la gente dice ‘te quiero’ a su pareja - On Valentine’s day people say ‘I love you’ to their partner.
  2. En el día de la madre la gente regala flores a su madre - On Mother’s Day the people gift flowers to their mother.
  3. En San Fermín, la gente corre delante de un toro - On San Fermín, the people run in front of a bull.
  4. En la Feria de Abril la gente baila y bebe vino dulce en las casetas - On Feria de Abril the people dance and drink sweet wine in the houses - tents.
  5. En Halloween la gente come dulces y ve películas de terror - On Halloween people eat sweets and watch horror films.
  6. En Nochebuena la gente come pavo y va a misa - On Christmas Eve people eat turkey and go to mass.
  7. En Nochevieja la gente come doce uvas y bebe sidra - On New Years Eve the people eat twelve grapes and drink cider.
  8. En el cumpleaños la gente come tarta y sopla las velas - On their birthdays people eat cake and blow the candles.

 

In pairs, we came up with ideas on what people do on Saint Patrick’s day - San Patricio

La gente duerme mucho - The people sleep a lot

La gente va al desfile - The people go to the parade

La gente toca un instrumento y baila - The people play an instrument and dance

La gente visita a su familia - The people visit their families

In the last part of the class, we worked on the listening activity on pages 14 and 15:

 

Dígame, ¿qué desea? - Tell me, what would you like?

A ver, una caña de cerveza, una fanta de limón, un café con leche y una copa de vino tinto de la casa - Let me see, a glass of beer, a lemon Fanta, a coffee with milk and a glass of red wine from the house.

Muy bien, ¿quiere usted una cerveza grande o pequeña? - Very good, would you like a big or small beer?

Pequeña - small

¿Lo van a tomar en la terraza? - Are you going to have it on the terrace/outside area?

Sí, ya que hace buen tiempo - Yes, as the weather is very nice

¿Qué tapas hay? - What tapas are there?

Tortilla de patatas, ensaladilla rusa, aceitunas, albóndigas, croquetas, gambas - Spanish omelette, potato salad, olives, meatballs, croquettes, prawns

Bueno, ¿nos pone una ración de gambas y otra de tortilla de patatas? - Well, can we get a portion of prawns and another of the omelette?

Pero la tortilla fría, sin calentarla. Y un poco de pan y aceite - But the omelette cold, without heating it. And a little bread and oil.

BEGINNERS COURSE, SPRING 2023, CLASS 4

 Week 4

We revised the question

¿Cómo se dice? – How do you say…?

We then learned the time in Spanish

¿Qué hora es? – What time is it?

Son las dos – It’s 2 o’clock.

Son las ocho – It’s eight o’clock

Es la una – It’s one o’clock (it changes to “es” because it is singular)

Son las ocho y media – It is half past eight

Son las ocho y cinco – It is five past eight

 

To express the idea of “to” – ten to, a quarter to – we use “menos”

Son las ocho menos cinco – it is five to eight

 

We then learned the days of the week

Lunes – Monday

Martes – Tuesday

Miércoles – Wednesday

Jueves – Thursday

Viernes – Friday

Sábado – Saturday

Domingo – Sunday

El fin de semana – the weekend
